GET INVOLVED
If you have an interest in local history, want to learn about documentary film making or would like to be involved in a reconstruction then get in touch.

The aim of the project is to get people involved in exploring the history of Halifax in the 16th and 17th centuries using Halifax’s most notorious historical claim to fame as a historical focus. We will do this through a series of integrated activities. There is a course about Halifax in the 16th and 17th centuries which will include how to research this period. There will be visits to local heritage sites where participants will explore and learn about the sites, do interviews, film and photograph the sites. There will be reconstructions of life in 16th and 17th century Halifax. Participants will research local records and all this work will feed into a documentary and website.
The project will explore and celebrate Halifax in the 16th and 17th centuries. It will involve learning and research into that period, exploring what life was like and how Halifax might have looked. It will explore the significance of the notorious gibbet and provide a way to explore themes such as justice, law, family life, work and society. Participants will learn research skills relevant to work in this period, visit heritage sites to learn more about their history and film and photograph them. Research documents will include diaries and probates.
The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund who enable communities to celebrate, look after and learn more about our diverse heritage.
